ORIGINAL Power of Seeds

Love Me Some™ offers functional foods that harness the ‘Power of Seeds’

What is a functional food?

Our ancestors used food as medicine, and today many supplements are extracted from everyday foods such as turmeric, elderberries and matcha. Food has always been functional and science has proven that these ancient remedies have natural healing powers.

Food, if eaten naturally, will benefit our bodies on a cellular level by acting synergistically to enhance our overall health. When consumed, functional foods have the properties to help us restore, heal, and replenish our bodies in a kind and natural way.

Our hormonal systems regulate our mood, metabolism, sleep patterns, and so much more.  We are affected by changes in these systems.  It is extremely important to keep the hormone systems healthy and functioning optimally.  Unfortunately, we may not pay enough attention to these systems, as we get busy in our day-to-day lives.  Everyone is affected by changes in hormones and the key to a healthy, happy life depends on keeping your hormones in balance.

Hormones are responsible for our moods, metabolism, sleep, skin, and so much more!

What is Seed Cycling?

Seed cycling is not a new concept.  It is a natural and kinder way of balancing hormones during our cycles.  For women, the target hormones are estrogen and progesterone

The first phase of the menstrual cycle is dominated by estrogen and second phase by progesterone. The SUPER SEEDS are Pumpkin Seeds, Flax Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, and Sesame Seeds. The omega-3 fatty acids, minerals, lignans, and vitamins in these seeds are essential building blocks for our sex hormones.

These nutrients have been found helpful with the common Pre-menstrual symptoms (PMS), irregular menstrual cycle, endometriosis, PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and pain related to ovarian cysts. They can also help in managing menopausal symptoms as hot flashes, night sweating and mood swings.

In general, seed cycling can be effective for women in various stages of lifecycle i.e. menstruating, pre-menopause, postpartum, and post-menopause.

THE TWO PHASES OF MENSTRUAL CYCLE ARE:

Phase 1 - Follicular Phase (Day 1-14, begins on the first day of the period)

Phase 2 - Luteal Phase (Day 15-28, begins right after ovulation)

How does Seed Cycling Work?

Seed Cycling is the commitment to eating flax, pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower seeds at varied times of the month with the goal to balance certain hormones.

In a regular cycle, during the follicular phase the hormone estrogen is low at the beginning which steadily increases to prepare the body for ovulation by ripening the ovaries.

Just before ovulation the levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH) increases, and estrogen level drops right after ovulation. The luteal phase starts when the egg is released from the ovaries. The levels of progesterone and estrogen increases slowly to support the body for conception and implantation of the baby. These hormones drop again if there is no implantation. And as a result, the uterus lining sheds which in general is called menstruation or bleeding.

To support healthy cycle, it is very important that the body regulates and maintains the hormone levels. Some women have health conditions like hypothyroidism and PCOS which can affect this balance. Other things that affect the hormones are over or under exercising, and lower or higher % body fat than normal.

How to follow the seed rotation diet?

PHASE ONE

1 tablespoon ground Flax Seeds + 1 tablespoon Pumpkin Seeds

Flax seeds are rich in phytoestrogens, a plant derived compound which structurally mimics estrogen, a primary sex hormone in women, so it naturally helps balance the estrogen level in the body.

Pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc which is known to help in progesterone production for luteal phase of the cycle. Zinc acts as a co-factor and catalysts in several pathways to produce progesterone and prepares for the second phase.

PHASE TWO

1 tablespoon Sunflower Seeds + 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds

During this phase, balancing of delicate ratio of estrogen to progesterone level is of essence. Both Sesame Seeds and Sunflower Seeds contain a high level of Vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant which could calm some of the inflammation during pre-period.

Lignans present in sesame seeds are known to block off excess estrogen and the high linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid which supports the balance between estrogen and progesterone.

Sunflower seeds are high in selenium, linoleic acid, and omega fatty acids, which help in promoting progesterone levels and optimal thyroid functions.

Seed Cycling is for Everyone! Yes!

Everyone can benefit from the balancing power of seeds.  Our ancestors used the moon to predict their cycles and lived in balance according to the phases of the moon.  Men and all women can benefit from the power of seeds, using the lunar cycle. The follicular phase should begin on a new moon and luteal phase should begin on full moon
