Our 5 Favourite Summer Snacks

No matter the household, it seems like everyone is on the go through the summer. Snacks are great because they offer sustenance without having to sit down for a full meal.

Whether you like to graze over a platter during an afternoon get-together in the backyard, or grab-and-go when you’re on the way to the beach, here are some of our favourite snacks to keep you satiated this summer.

  1. Cracker Nachos

Does anything say patio weather like nachos and a cold drink? Though we appreciate the traditional tortilla chip style nachos, we like to make ours a little bit healthier. We use a base of a couple packages of LOVE ME SOME crackers, which gives us a bit more nutritional value. Then we layer on traditional nacho ingredients, put it in the oven just long enough to melt the cheese and serve it with some freshly-made guacamole and salsa.

  1. Charcuterie Board

No matter the occasion, a charcuterie board is always a crowd pleaser. It takes a bit longer to prepare than the other snacks on our list, but it’s a platter that usually has something for everyone, making it perfect for a summertime get-together (just make sure not to serve it unprotected in the sun).

Using a beautiful display of fresh or dried fruit, cheeses, nuts, cured meats, crackers, artisanal breads, spreads, and more, this snacking platter is sure to be a hit at your next shindig — although, there’s nothing stopping you from making a charcuterie board for one.

  1. Green Smoothie Popsicles

Guilt-free treats? Yes, please! We love healthy eating, but sometimes that sweet tooth comes a-calling. During a hot summer day, a cold and fresh-tasting popsicle is sure to tide you over.

Whatever you use to make your green smoothie, pour it into a popsicle mold and freeze it. A bit of spinach, banana, parsley, ginger, apple, kiwi, little bit of honey, or whatever combination of foods you like can turn your usual morning smoothie into a refreshing popsicle.

  1. DIY Trail Mix

While ready-made trail mix is convenient, there’s usually one or two additions in there that you tend to eat around. Making your own trail mix ensures you have only delicious ingredients to fuel you through your hiking, camping, or other outdoor adventures.

There’s no real recipe to follow, simply let your taste buds guide you. Nuts, dried fruits, granola, a little bit of candy-covered chocolate, and seeds are the usual go-tos. Here’s a bit of a LOVE ME SOME twist: we break our crackers into smaller pieces and add them to the mix in lieu of some of the seeds.

  1. Chocolate Chia Pudding

Kids and adults both seem to love a good chia pudding — and it’s so easy to make! Mix the following in a container, put it in the fridge for a few hours and serve with some fresh berries, nuts, or seeds, for a very satisfying snack!

  • 2 tbsp cacao or cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup dairy-free milk
  • ¼ cup chia seeds

Hopefully this list gives you get some inspiration to level up your summertime snacks. Happy Eating!
